Hi, its Noel here to tell you about our Terrific Scientific investigation! We wanted to find out how many tastebuds (also known as Fungiform Papillae in Latin) we have. We did it for the BBC and Coventry University.First we washed our hands.Next we got a cotton bud and dipped it into the natural blue food dye .Then we painted the dye onto our tongue. After that we got a piece of A4 card with a hole and placed it on the blue dye. Finally we counted the pink lumps and ticked if we were a non taster, taster or super taster. Our super tasters have 14 or more tastebuds. In our class the super tasters are Adam,Macy,Abby,Miss Smallwood, Issey and Reiya. What do you want to know to find about tasting YR 4? Noel.😎😜

Be safe, be seen!

This year, Class 3 took part in the road safety quiz for the first time. We did extremely well but the quiz caused us to be curious about some aspects of road safety

Why are some items of clothing safer to wear on the roads than others?

Because we are very busy learning about light, we decided to do some investigating to find what materials and colours reflect light. We turned our classroom cupboard into a dark cave. Without a light source of any kind, we couldn’t see a thing! We made some predictions before we started our investigation. We used a torch to explore different materials in our cave and we imagined the torches were beams of light from cars and other vehicles.

We concluded that different colours and materials reflect different amounts of light. When we were finished, we sorted our clothing into safe and unsafe.

What are you going to wear when walking or cycling in the dark?

White Light

In Class 3, we are really enjoying working on Light which is our Science topic for this half-term.

We created our own ‘Whizzer Wheels’ and we were really lucky to have our friends in Year 6 to help us.

Whizzer wheels taught us about white light and we were amazed when we saw the colours of the rainbow blending together.

We figured out how to spin the wheel with great speed.

We realised that working as a team made the task much easier.

We also did a light experiment involving bubbles. We used a torch and a magnifying glass to look at the different colours in the bubbles. We noticed that it was easier to see the colours when there were lots of little bubbles as opposed to one large bubble

These experiments taught us that white light is made of a spectrum of 7 seven colours.

Did you enjoy these experiments?
