Last summer there were lots of events in Vernon Park to promote a love of reading through craft activities  and storytelling sessions. This year the event comes to us as online.  Nicky Rafferty, a storyteller came to school last year to tell us about Samuel Fox and we all made bunting of our favourite story characters . Nicky is tellng stories again along with lots of other things to do.  If you are missing your library visits click on the link below for some fun activities.

World Book Day 2020

On Friday we enjoyed celebrating World Book Day. Everyone look amazing – well done to all the staff and children who dressed up to make it a special, memorable day. Here are a few photos of nursery children and some from the assembly, where each year group showed the specific work they had done on our whole school book focus, ‘Flotsam’. Keep a look out in classrooms for ‘Flotsam’ displays coming soon. Who was the best character you saw that day? What book are you reading at the moment?

Nursery children made cameras out of egg boxes. Then they went on a shell hunt in the nursery yard. They also learned how to take real pictures with the iPads.

Reception children thought about all the beaches all over the world and looked at flags from different countries.

Miss Smallwood was Golilocks AND the 3 bears! Very clever.

Rainy plays in Year Four result in comfy, snuggly reading! We are loving ‘The Treehouse’ collection of books. Have you read any?

There’s nothing more exciting than diving deep into a good book. The adventure can take us places well beyond our imagination. So we thoroughly enjoyed our Reading Day in particular, our trip to Bulwell Riverside Library. We met Ian who read us Neil Goddard’s Never Use A Knife and Fork. We are looking forward to returning soon!

Nicky the storyteller who came into school is at Vernon Park each Monday with free activities from 11.00 until 1.00.  The bunting the children made is on display, so why not  go and have a look for yours. She is also part of free activities at the Forest Recreation Ground, Highfields Park, Wollaton Hall and Woodthorpe Park during August. Have a look at the daily events at Vernon Park.

Don’t forget to sign up for reading 6 books in the Space Challenge at the library. Lets  see if Our Lady’s can achieve the most readers for the challenge this summer.
