Hello Everyone,
I hope you had a good week and enjoyed the cricket activities.
I please to announce that Janis in year 2 has been awarded a gold medal this week for his brilliant effort with the cross run challenge (number 8). Well done Janis, that is really well deserved – you have tried so hard every week and I’m delighted this has been recognised.
It’s not too late to send in scores for last week’s challenge number 9, the hurdles one. Please see the PDF for the new challenge number 10 – wall catch.
Try and get scores to me by Tuesday for challenge 9 and the following week for challenge 10. You can email me, write messages on here or use the FB page to tell me your scores.
This week’s PE is gymnastics, my favourite! We have some amazing gymnasts at Our Lady’s, so I expect you’ll find the daily lesson ideas straightforward. I’d love to see some pictures if you get time to email any to me, or put them on the fb page.
Please see the attached PDF’s for Challenge 10 and the Gymnastics ideas.

Hello!
Some of us have been back in school this week and enjoyed PE lessons and activities on the playground or in the hall.
We cannot play team games at the moment, so most PE is based around athletics ideas or individual ball skills.
All the children in school will be taking part in the ‘Go for Gold challenges’. Our Lady’s has been the most participating school across the whole city.
I am so proud of everyone taking part. Let’s keep it up and see how many Gold bands and medals we can achieve over the next few weeks.
A massive congratulations to Oskar in year 4 and Ella in Rec for their ball pass efforts (challenge 7). They won a gold medal each! Fantastic!
Please see the attached PDF’s for this week’s challenge 9 (hurdles jumping) and this week’d PE ideas are all based around cricket.
You can send challenge scores directly to the city sports team or send them to me and I will collate them. I have loved seeing the pictures and videos on the Facebook page. Thank you.
There is still time to have a go at last week’s challenge 8 (cross run). I will be sending in our scores on Tuesday, so get them to me asap!
Here are a couple of great ‘supermovers’ exercise routines for you to have a go at this week. If level 1 is too easy, I challenge you to level 2. Have fun!
Stay safe, staty active,
Mrs Herbert. xx

1. Run up and down with one foot between each strip.

How fast can you do it?

Hello Everyone,
This week’s PE lessons are all about Netball. I love Monday’s ideas – making a dance mat and moving with fast feet and good coordination. Tuesday’s ball passes will be fun too, and for those netball lovers, there’s is a word search on Wednesday. Thursday is a game of ‘The floor is lava’ and shooting balls (or socks) into a laundry basket! Friday has a little competition. The more Friday competitions you enter, the more the more chances you’ll have in the prize draw. See the PDF’s below for full details.
2 week’s ago the ‘Go for Gold’ challenge was to throw up and ball and catch. All the results from across the city were were sent in and I’m delighted to tell you that Sarah from our yr 5 and Oliwia from our Yr 4 won the GOLD MEDALS! Congratulations girls!
I hope you took part in last week’s shuttle run. Send me your scores, I’ll be sending them in on Monday and Tuesday.
This week’s challenge is all about fast feet. See the attached PDF for full details and watch the video for a demonstration.
You have to lay out strips of paper like a ladder and time yourself doing some fast feet patterns.
The challenge is to go up and down the fast feet course in 3 different ways:
 (1) 1 foot at a time in each square (2) 2 feet in the square each time (3) 2 feet jumping into each square.
How long did it take you. Send me your times and I’ll forward them to the City Sports people.
Good Luck.
Take care, stay active
Regards,
Mrs Herbert.
PS. Let me know what other activities you’re up to – anyone been on a bike ride?
Who’s doing workouts/ Yoga?
Stay in touch! Kind regards,
Mrs Herbert

PE Shuttle run Challenge

Posted by olops | Posted in Nursery, Reception, Sports, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 | Posted on May 7, 2020

Hi,

has anyone else done this shuttle run challenge yet? Just place 2 markers (could be anything) 8 big steps apart. Then see how many times you can run between them in 30 seconds. The best boy’s score this week is Oskar in yr 4 with 16 runs! The best girls’ scores are Ella and Jaxyn in reception with 14 runs. I tried again, but still only got 11. How many can you do?

Post the answers below and I can put you forward for a ‘GO FOR GOLD’ wrist band.

Don’t forget the best scores, or most creative attempts could win a GOLD MEDAL!

Good luck.

Hi,

Have you done this challenge yet?

Place one marker down, then take 8 large strides and place another marker on the floor.

Then run as fast as you can between the two. How many runs can you do in 30 seconds?

This was my first go, and I got 8. I’ll be trying to improve my score all week. Let me know how many you can do. You could try something creative and you might win  a gold medal from Notts school sports. There are medals each week for the most improved, most creative or highest score. Just send me the details and I’ll pass them on.

Good luck.

Hello!
I trust you all had a great weekend – I hope you kept active?
Yesterday I did gymnastics in the park. Today, we had a family bike ride to an unusually quiet Matlock Bath (I live in Matlock, so I haven’t been that far!).
I hope you had a go at last week’s ‘Going for Gold’ challenge – To throw up a ball and see how many times you can clap before catching it. Don’t forget to let me know how many you can do.
School Sports Nottingham will be giving out 2 gold medals each week. They could be awarded for most improved, most creative attempt or highest score.
I am delighted to tell you that Chimamanda in the nursery was the highest scorer for the ‘socks in a box’ challenge and will be receiving a GOLD medal when we return to school. Well done Chimmi, I’m so proud of you!
This week’s challenge is a shuttle run. Please see the PDF for full details and a video. Basically, it’s running between 2 cones set about 10m apart. How many runs can you do in 30 seconds? Can you improve your score?  Good luck!
I will be having a go and I will post my video on our NEW YOU TUBE channel. Follow this link to go to our new school page. All my PE videos are there and some nursery ones with staff reading stories and singing songs. I hope you enjoy them!
Did you enjoy the golf last week? Thanks to Adrian in year 6 for sending me a great photo of him playing golf in his living room!
This week’s lessons are all based on Football. With activities designed to improve dribbling, passing, keepy ups, scoring and fitness, there’s sure to be enough to keep us busy and active all week. Use the ideas as brain breaks or as specific PE lessons within your week – whatever works best for you!
Keep emailing me, or post comments on the blog or FB page. I look forward to your messages and photos.
Have fun!
Love from
Mrs Herbert xxxx

PE – GOLF and Challenge 4

Posted by olops | Posted in Nursery, Reception, Sports, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 | Posted on April 26, 2020

Hello Lovely Parents and Children,
I hope you’ve all had a great weekend. Our gardens will be grateful for the little bit of rain that came today (Sunday)!
This week, challenge number 4, is to throw up a ball (or pair of socks) and see how many times you can clap before you catch it.
Reception and Nursery children, if this is too tricky for you, you can just throw and catch the ball to get  a point towards the ‘Going for Gold’ band challenge.
I know some of you have tried to send me videos, but your email won’t allow it. It might work if it is a very short video clip, or you can simply send me photos. I don’t actually need photo evidence for you to get the point, just a written message will do.  The Facebook ‘Our Lady’s friends of the school’ page will allow you to upload videos and pictures, so you can do it that way if you like.
The other attachment is a week’s worth of PE lessons based around GOLF! Don’t worry, you don’t need a golf club, any bat will do (or a frying pan or umbrella!)
There are some great ideas, and they can all be done inside or outside the house – so depending on the weather, there is no excuse!
I am looking forward to trying them all with my children this week and I will let you know how we get on.
I’ve also attached some Yoga moves should you want to have a go. I’d love to see any photos.
I will make a Home School PE display with pictures from you when we get back to school.
Here is a link to a youtube channel I like to use as an alternative to Joe Wicks. Each video is only 5 minutes long, and they are a great way to help you get your 60 active minutes every day.

Have a great start to the week, stay in touch…I look forward to hearing from you!
Yours in sport,
Mrs Herbert.
