We did it! We raised ยฃ230 in total to buy a laptop and books for the school we have been learning about in Tanzania. Thank you parents and children for your kindness and generosity – have you ever seen so many cakes in one place!?

I’m sure the children at Tamani School will really appreciate our donation. Check back for pictures of the school receiving it.

Can you play this game at home?

Choose four number cards without peeking ย (or less if you are younger!) and your partner does the same. Order your numbers to make the biggest number you can! Whose is bigger? Keep a tally.

Comment below if you played this game!

Quadrilaterals

Posted by olops | Posted in Maths, Year 4 | Posted on June 20, 2019

Today we learnt about four sided shapes called quadrilaterals. Some quadrilaterals are: rhombus, trapezium and parallelogram. We all had our own shape and sorted them in to a Venn diagram depending on whether they had four sides or had an acute angle.

Can you name any other shapes that are quadrilaterals?

We have hidden a quadrilateral in our school….who can find it and give it to a Year 4 first?

Year 4 Times Table Check

15

Posted by olops | Posted in Maths, Year 4 | Posted on April 28, 2019

Dear Parents and Year Four,

Next academic year the government are introducing a ‘Times Table Check’ for Year 4 pupils. This is an online test where the children will have 25 times table questions, and 6 seconds to answer each. Although not formally beginning until the next academic year, we are enrolled on the pilot voluntary check which your children will be sitting over a three week period (10th-28th June)

You can find out more detailed information about the testing hereย

To prepare for this check, and to get used to the online testing format, please practise every day using the link below.

Click me

The children will complete the test on an iPad, but practise is just as valuable on a desktop computer if you do not have access to a tablet.

Please complete this online practise instead of your daily times table book. At the end of the test, it tells you which times tables you got wrong. It would be helpful if you could record your score and any specific times tables you found difficult in your reading diary. If your child is finding 6 seconds too quick, you can adjust the time to 10 seconds to build their confidence before changing it back to the check time of 6 seconds per questions.

If you have any questions, or are having trouble accessing the practise tests, then please come and see me.

Thank you for your support,

Miss Smallwood

Game: Mystery Number

How to play:

Put a sticky note on your players head (and they do the same to you) with a number on. If you are younger it might be a one digit number, or maybe even a 3-digit number for older children. You have to ask your partner questions to guess what the number on your head is.

Questions you could ask:

Is it odd or even?
Is it a multiple of 4?
Are the tens larger than 4?
Is it in the 5 times table?
Is it a square number?
Are the units less than 6?

Winner is the first person to correctly guess their number!
