As part of our Science we have been investigating plants. Today we went into the peace garden to extend our knowledge further by identifying the names of plants and finding out what is currently growing in our school gardens.

Posted by olops | Posted in Year 6 | Posted on April 29, 2019

Year 6 are working so hard to prepare for the tests. Today, some children acted as experts and taught some maths and SPAG skills to their friends. It was a fun way to do revision and we worked very hard.

Keep going Class Six. Nearly there. I am proud of you all.

Year 4 Times Table Check

Posted by olops | Posted in Maths, Year 4 | Posted on April 28, 2019

Dear Parents and Year Four,

Next academic year the government are introducing a ‘Times Table Check’ for Year 4 pupils. This is an online test where the children will have 25 times table questions, and 6 seconds to answer each. Although not formally beginning until the next academic year, we are enrolled on the pilot voluntary check which your children will be sitting over a three week period (10th-28th June)

You can find out more detailed information about the testing here

To prepare for this check, and to get used to the online testing format, please practise every day using the link below.

Click me

The children will complete the test on an iPad, but practise is just as valuable on a desktop computer if you do not have access to a tablet.

Please complete this online practise instead of your daily times table book. At the end of the test, it tells you which times tables you got wrong. It would be helpful if you could record your score and any specific times tables you found difficult in your reading diary. If your child is finding 6 seconds too quick, you can adjust the time to 10 seconds to build their confidence before changing it back to the check time of 6 seconds per questions.

If you have any questions, or are having trouble accessing the practise tests, then please come and see me.

Thank you for your support,

Miss Smallwood

As part of Class 3’s mission to spread joy over Easter, we were able to visit the Poor Clare sisters. We made Easter cards, prepared lots of questions to ask the nuns and they were overjoyed when the children sang some songs from our Easter production! We were also joined by two special guests – their beautiful dogs for the children to see! A joyful morning for all.

Garden Club children sold all the gifts of a pansy in a pot last week. We have now raised enough money to buy a pack of Trees for life, a vegetable garden and some drought resistant crops from CAFOD. This will bring hope and joy to some families around the world by providing them with food and a living. A BIG thank you to everyone who helped by buying a Mother’s Day gift from us.

We had such a fantastic Easter Experience at St Mary’s Church! The volunteers there commented on the children’s impeccable behaviour and knowledge of the Easter story.

Easter Activity Day 2019

We enjoyed a Holy, beautiful, reflective and peaceful day on Wednesday when we celebrated what Easter people we are. We sang and  prayed in the hall, made an Easter garden and went to church to experience the Stations of the Cross. We had a retreat session with Francis to celebrate the resurrection. Nursery and reception children enjoyed making Easter bonnets with their parents. The faithful friends burned all our ‘sorry prayers’ in a ceremony in the Peace Garden. We will use the ashes later in the year to mix with paint and create a something beautiful, because God has forgiven us and we are ready to move on happily in our lives.

We are so proud of our year 4 athletics team. They trained so hard and were determined to get a medal. On Tuesday they did just that. They were up against much bigger schools so this achievement is impressive. Well done team!!!!  Look at the picture taken the moment before they announced we’d won the medal. Nervous faces and lots of fingers crossed. Then look at the one taken when they realise they have won a medal. Priceless!
